What Should You Do After Your Massage?

I am asked this question frequently.

It comes in the form of...

Is it ok if I get a Chiropractic adjustment after my massage?

Can I go workout after my massage?

Is there anything I could potentially do that could ruin the effects of what was done during my massage?

The only correct answer to these questions is to listen to your body and how you are feeling and honor that. If that means that you are energized after your massage, perhaps a workout or your favorite physical activity would be a great idea.

If you are feeling depleted, perhaps a hot bath and a nap are in order.

A comment on getting Chiropractic adjustments... My personal opinion is that chiropractic adjustments seem to be more effective when they are done after a massage. Your muscles are all nice and relaxed and the Chiropractor can perform the adjustment more effectively.

The one thing I do not recommend doing after a massage is taking on a rigorous activity that you have never done before. For example, if you aren't a regular runner, I wouldn't recommend going out for a 5 mile run. I would stick with a 3 mile walk. Make sense?

A cool thing that happens with the athletes I work with who feel energized after their sessions and go to workout or run, report they have experience their most effective workouts. Running endurance increases, muscle recovery is quicker, and they report less muscle soreness after the workout.
