Essential Oils for Winter: Bergamot

Baby, it's cold outside and winter is here. The days are shorter and much colder and all I want to do is sit at home in front of the fire on days like this...Maybe binge-watch something on Netflix too.

Because we are experiencing less sunlight in our days, some people { like me } have more of a proclivity to be SAD. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression that is related to changes in the season when there fewer hours of sunlight that can make you feel sad, moody, and have less energy. Essential oils can be very helpful in alleviating these symptoms.

I would like to introduce you to one of my favorite essential oils to use specifically this time of year to address SAD: Bergamot.

Bergamot is the unripe green fruit from the bitter orange tree. The essential oil is cold pressed from the rind.

Bergamot has a beautiful fresh, fruity-floral smell that is both uplifting and relaxing. Bergamot helps in regulating the nervous system and releasing stagnant energy.

Bergamot helps to release tension, irritability, and frustration. It encourages the release of pent up feelings, nervous energy, and tension.

What is the best way to use Bergamot Essential Oil?

1. Diffuse it in your home and office during the day for 15-20 minutes every couple of hours.

2. If you don't have a diffuser, place one drop of Bergamot essential oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, hold your hands up to your face and breathe in deeply. {don't put your fingers in or around your eyes}

Bergamot is such a delightful smell. I hope you find it as useful as I do when I need a bit of a lift in my mood. If you decide to use it, please let me know how you like it.
